Tracer experiment conducted in the Snake River, Summit County, Colorado to study sorption of dissolved organic matter on iron oxides. 6000 gallons of humic-rich water from Georgia's Suwanee River was pumped into the Snake River in an hour. The reaction rates were quantified and found to be an order of magnitude faster in the first 170 meters downstream than in the further downstream reaches. Collaborators included the University of Virginia and USGS. Photo: Diane McKnight (CEAE & INSTAAR).
